Biography

Ibo van de Poel is Professor in Ethics and Technology at the Technical University Delft, the Netherlands. He currently serves as the integrity officer of TU Delft, and as the scientific director of the Delft Design for Values Institute. His research focuses on engineering ethics and the ethics of technology, including technological risks and uncertainty, design for values, responsible innovation, moral responsibility and the ethics of socially disruptive technologies like Artificial Intelligence. He has published several books including a widely used co-authored (with Lamber Royakkers) textbook on Ethics, Technology and Engineering. He is a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) and one of the PIs of the gravitation project ‘Ethics of Socially Disruptive Technologies’.
